The leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has expressed his worries about the high number of abductions happening in Nigeria.

In a tweet on Sunday, February 26, 2024, Pope Francis mentioned that he is praying and hoping that steps will be taken to address these incidents.

“The increasingly frequent kidnappings in Nigeria are extremely concerning,” he said.

“I express my closeness in prayer to the Nigerian people, hoping that efforts will be made to contain the spread of these incidents as much as possible.”

The Pope’s concern comes as there has been an increase in abductions for ransom in various areas of the country.

Even the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been affected, with kidnappers targeting specific neighborhoods and border communities.
