Dr. Richard Somiari, the Director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, stated on Wednesday that the results of an autopsy conducted on the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, will be available in the next three to four weeks.
Somiari provided this assurance while giving testimony during a coroner’s inquest into the death of the singer.
The witness was cross-examined on Wednesday by the defense counsel in the inquest.
The musician passed away on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest the following day at the age of 27.
His death sparked controversy, leading the Lagos State Government to order a coroner’s inquest into the matter.
The inquest, which commenced on October 13, 2023, is being held at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.
Somiari told the Coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi: “We expected to get the first set of autopsy results in three to four weeks and re-confirm to authenticate the cause of the death.
“We searched for multiple possibilities, to check if poison was involved in death of Mohbad since no actual cause was mentioned.”
The forensic expert assured the public of the adequate security and monitoring of samples for the autopsy.
“We have a place where items are stored for safety and security of results. There is a procedure for monitoring samples moved abroad,” he said.
Mr. Sadiq Ayobami, also known as Spendy, testified that he saw the deceased the day before his death.
He mentioned that they both went to a concert in Ikorodu and then returned to his house before he left before the singer’s demise.
Mrs. Abiodun Kolawole, an activist from the African Women Lawyers Association, advised the deceased’s parents to take their concerns about the singer’s child’s paternity to court instead of resorting to social media.
The Coroner, Magistrate T. A. Shotobi, postponed the case until April 15.
