According to reports, Chelsea are close to reaching a deal that will see Frank Lampard return to Stamford Bridge until the end of the season. Everton fired the Blues legend early in the season. In a stunning change of events, however, a quick return to management is now on the cards.

Lampard is ‘close’ to reaching a deal with Chelsea that will see him return to the club, according to The Athletic.

The former England international has been out of work since leaving Everton in January, despite earlier helping the Toffees avoid relegation.

While Chelsea is working on an agreement, Lampard is expected to return to finish the season after Graham Potter’s departure.

According to the report, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are leading the hunt for Chelsea’s new head coach, with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali overseeing the process.

And it appears that all four men were engaged in the decision to bring Lampard back.

After watching Chelsea‘s goalless draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday night, Lampard is poised to become the club’s interim manager.

He was originally the club’s manager from July 2019 to January 2021 before being fired and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Several candidates are being considered for the position of permanent boss.

Luis Enrique, who left his position as Spain manager after the World Cup in Qatar last year, has held discussions about taking over at Stamford Bridge.

Julian Nagelsmann is another candidate, with the 35-year-old on the market after leaving Bayern Munich.
