A suspected member of Adamawa State’s Shila Boys youth gang was slain in a battle with vigilantes in the capital, Yola.

The teenager, named only as Uba, was allegedly stabbed to death after a clash between gang members and vigilantes when the gang raided Demsawo Government Day Secondary in Jimeta.

Witnesses reported Thursday that the hoodlums, armed with knives, sticks, and cutlasses, attacked the school, beat the instructors, and vandalized cars and school infrastructure.

The youngsters were claimed to have attacked the school to unleash their rage on anybody in sight after one of their comrades was detained by the vigilantes patrolling it.

The Adamawa State Police Command reported the arrest of Muhammadu Musa, one of the accused Shila Boys, who allegedly orchestrated the brawl.

The command stated that the vigilante, Nasiru Abdullahi, who reportedly wielded the weapon that murdered Uba, has also been apprehended.

According to reports, Musa and four other youths went to the school grounds in uniform early last month, on January 29, and pretended to be pupils to get entry.

When it was discovered that they were up to something wicked, the vigilantes captured them and transported them to the principal’s office.

During interrogation at the principal’s office, Musa allegedly pulled out his knife and attempted to flee, but was overcome by the vigilantes, while his four other conspirators fled.

The four, however, rallied other lads and stormed the school for the second time, attacking any vigilantes and teachers they could find.

It was also revealed that some of the youths matched Nasiru Abdullahi but were unable to penetrate because he was fortified by charms, and in order to protect himself, he stabbed Uba to death with the weapon he had stolen from Muhammadu Musa.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state Police Public Relations Officer, provided an update on the situation, saying that the police will apprehend the fleeing Shila Boys and assure the conviction of all culprits.
