Actress Ethel Aderemi, Famous For ‘Basi and Company’ Role, Loses Battle Against Cancer

Ethel Aderemi, formerly known as Ethel Ekpe, a veteran Nigerian actress, has passed away.

She succumbed to cancer on Wednesday in Lagos.

Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), announced her demise in a Facebook post on Wednesday night.

He stated, “I have received credible information confirming the passing of Ethel Ekpe, the beloved actress known for her memorable portrayal of Segi in the acclaimed sitcom ‘Basi and Company’ on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), created by Ken Saro Wiwa.”

Husseini continued, “The actress, who later became a pastor, will be deeply missed. My family, in particular, will feel her absence, as we named my second daughter Ethel in her honor. Rest in peace, dear lady.”
