Sixteen days after the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State, was disconnected by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company for owing N495 million, power has been restored to the health facility.

Electricity was restored around 6.30 p.m. on Thursday, as reported by PUNCH Online.

This disconnection was the third time in less than two months due to the accumulated bill indebtedness.

The Ibadan DisCo explained that they disconnected the hospital on March 19 because they were unable to engage with the facility’s management regarding the N495 million debt that had been ongoing for over six years.

According to PUNCH Online, the hospital signed an agreement with the electricity distribution company on how to settle the remaining debt, leading to the restoration of power supply.

“The hospital management has paid N80 million out of the N495 million, and it has signed a memorandum of understanding on how to pay the rest of the money.

“The hospital just had to look for a way out because it was becoming embarrassing.

“Workers had to purchase rechargeable lamps with which to attend to patients during the period when there was no electricity supply to the hospital,” the source noted.
