In continuation of their appeal before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja, the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, have produced eighteen thousand and eighty-eight (18,088) blurred polling unit result sheets, among other documents.

Onyechi Ikpeazu, counsel for the Petitioners, produced the documents through the petitioners’ fourth witness (PW4), Eric Ofoedu, a Professor of Mathematics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The petitioners also presented a report on the witness’ analysis of some election materials, a copy of a letter written to him by the LP on February 20, 2023, engaging Professor Ofoedu to assist the party in analyzing data in relation to the February 25 presidential election, and the subpoena issued on him to appear in court and produce the aforementioned documents.

Abubakar Mahmoud, counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun, representing President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettma, and Lateef Fagbemi, counsel to the All Progressives Congress (APC), objected to the tendering of the majority of the documents, promising to provide reasons for their objection at the end of their written addresses.

Respondents’ lawyers expressed concern that the petitioners only gave them with Professor Ofoedu’s written statement a few minutes before the court, stating that they should have been served earlier to allow them to review the statement for the purpose of cross examination.

The petitioners also called their fifth witness (PW5), Lumnie Edevbie, a subpoenaed witness from a private television channel station who presented a flash drive with a video clip of INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu’s address at Chatham House in London.
