Mali Beat Burkina Faso To Reach AFCON Quarter-Finals

Mali will now play against a revitalized Côte d'Ivoire team in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Bouake.

The Eagles of Mali have advanced to the quarter-finals of AFCON 2023 after defeating Burkina Faso with a score of 2-1 on Tuesday.

This is the first time since 2013 that Mali has reached the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. The Malians had a strong start with an own goal by Edmond Tapsoba in the 3rd minute.

In the second half, Mali extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Lassine Sinayoko three minutes into the half.

In the 57th minute, Burkina Faso scored a goal as Bertrand Traore successfully converted a penalty kick.

Mali will now play against a revitalized Côte d’Ivoire team in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Bouake.

Despite their underwhelming performance in the group stage, the Ivorians managed to eliminate Senegal in a penalty shootout.
