Liverpool needed a second-half fightback to beat Sheffield United and restore their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 win on Thursday night.
With the score tied as the clock ticked down to 76 minutes, midfielder Alexis McAllister lifted the roof at Anfield with a rocket from the edge of the box that was lit up in the high lights.
And Cody Gakpo’s late header completed the win, which saw Liverpool move two points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s side looked set for victory from the moment Darwin Nunes beat Ivo Hrbich to open the scoring in a stunning display.
But Sheffield United tried to stay in the game and equalized when Gustav Hammer’s header was saved by Connor Bradley to make it 1-1 in the second half.
For a while, it looked like Liverpool’s dominance that night would not bring the desired results, but McAllister and Gakpo ensured that the title race would remain in Liverpool’s hands as it stood.
