Ilkay Gundogan says Manchester City are demonstrating their experience at the business end of the season after scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday, which kept the Toffees looking over their shoulders in the relegation struggle.

City went four points clear of Arsenal, who play at home against Brighton later today, with both teams having three games remaining.

Because of their better goal difference, the defending champions will most certainly win their fifth title in six seasons, with five points from their remaining fixtures.

“We have a very experienced team and competing in the last few games of the season is not a new situation for us, and that helps us a lot,” said Gundogan. “It’s about staying calm and trust in your abilities.”

Everton are one point above the drop zone and might drop into the bottom three if Leicester beat Liverpool on Monday.

In contrast to Everton, City are still on target for a triple and could afford some of their stars an afternoon off ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final, second leg against Real Madrid.

“It’s a dream come true being here,” said City coach Pep Guardiola. “The only team in Europe to be fighting in all competitions. Still it is not over, in the Premier League is it never over. We need two more wins to be champions.”

Guardiola made four changes from the team that drew 1-1 in the first leg in Spain’s capital on Tuesday, with John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jack Grealish all sitting out.

Mason Holgate inexplicably spooned over a wonderful chance to open the score after James Tarkowski headed down a corner after the visitors had taken 35 minutes to find their flow.

The game was done as a contest three minutes after Holgate’s sitter.
