Calvin Bassey, a star player for Fulham, criticized Manchester United by saying that Marco Silva’s team showed more determination during their first victory at Old Trafford in 21 years.
Bassey scored the opening goal from a corner in the second half, but Harry Maguire equalized in the 89th minute. Fulham continued to push and ultimately secured a well-deserved win when Alex Iwobi scored on a counter-attack in the 97th minute.
When asked if Manchester United had become an easy team to beat, especially in midfield, Bassey believed that it was more about desire than skill after their 10th Premier League loss.
“I don’t think you can just come here and overrun them. You can see the quality of the players they have,” Bassey said via Daily Mail.
“They have got top players and a top manager and players that can have an effect off the bench, but we were just at it more and I felt we wanted it more today. That showed in the way we played.”
Fulham arrived at Old Trafford with the second worst away record in the league.
Despite United being unpredictable and missing key players like Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw due to injuries last week, Fulham saw a chance to capitalize on the situation.
“Of course we had belief,’ Bassey added.
“If you saw the last games we played, even the one we played at home (against United) when we lost right at the end, it was just the details and making sure we got the details right. It worked out for us, thank God.”
