The country’s food crisis, along with inflationary pressures, has caused the federal government to order the distribution of 102,000 metric tons of rice and corn to Nigerians.

The administration has also stated that it may import whatever deficits occur in order to supplement supply.

Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, made the statement while answering questions from State House media shortly after the Presidential Committee on Food Emergency meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said the President has directed that “food will be made available, whatever it takes.”

The decision came after a series of committee meetings in response to Nigerians’ demonstrations over rising food prices and other economic difficulties.
