Manchester City had a great win in the derby against Manchester United on Sunday. They came from behind to win 3-1, with Phil Foden scoring two goals and Erling Haaland adding another.
The victory kept them just one point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. Marcus Rashford scored a stunning goal to give United the lead, but Haaland missed an open goal just before halftime.
Foden’s goals ensured City stayed in the title race and secured the win.
Haaland scored his sixth goal in four Premier League derbies against United to make up for his earlier miss.
United’s 11th league defeat of the season leaves Erik ten Hag’s team 11 points behind the top four with 11 games left.
The former Ajax boss was angry that City’s equalizer was allowed to stand, claiming Rashford had been fouled at the other end seconds earlier.
United had no excuses after being thoroughly outplayed by their rivals for most of the match.
Rashford responded to his critics this week, defending his commitment.
Rashford, who scored 30 goals last season, showed a glimpse of his quality by opening the scoring on eight minutes.
City appealed for an offside call against Bruno Fernandes, but he passed the ball back to Rashford, who scored with a stunning long-range shot under the bar.
Pep Guardiola’s team took control of the game, but struggled to score due to poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping by Andre Onana.
On two occasions, Foden was stopped by Onana when he had a clear chance to score, and Rodri’s shot was saved by a great stop.
Rashford missed a chance to double United’s lead before halftime when he was put through on goal but failed to control the ball properly.
City managed to break through United’s defense with a cross from Rodri that Foden headed back across goal, but Haaland missed an open goal from close range.
Foden later scored a brilliant goal to match Rashford’s earlier strike, and then set up the decisive goal for Haaland.
Haaland redeemed himself by scoring a goal after Rodri dispossessed Amrabat and set him up to score.
