The Labour Party‘s National Working Committee (NWC) has given the green light for the sale and submission of forms for the Edo State election. The process will take place from January 25 to February 11, 2024.
The announcement was made in a communiqué by Obiora Ifoh, the party’s national publicity secretary, following the NWC meeting in Abuja. Ifoh also mentioned that female aspirants are exempt from paying for the expression of interest form.
He said: “Arising from the meeting of the NWC of the Labour Party under the chairmanship of Julius Abure, the party’s leadership took a far-reaching decision on the Edo election.
“This is with regards to the guidelines for the conduct of Congress and primaries to elect candidates for the Edo gubernatorial election.
“They include the NWC’s approval of sales of forms to all interested aspirants from the state who are Nigerians or residents in the state.
“NWC approved that the fees for expression of interest shall be five million naira only, while the nomination form shall be twenty-five million naira only.”
Ifoh also stated that the Committee authorized indirect primary elections, in which ward and local government congresses will determine the party’s flag bearers.
He stated that the screening of applicants was approved on February 14, the primary election was held on February 22, and any problems or appeals emerging from the primaries were resolved on February 23.
