Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese, has been honored with the Mundo Fraternity Award for his work with the Kukah Centre.

The award was presented to Kukah in Madrid, the capital of Spain, on Saturday.

The director of the Spanish Magazine, Mundo, Enrique Bayo Mata, who is also a priest of the Comboni Missionaries, informed the Kukah Centre about the award.

The magazine organizes an annual event called the encounter with Africa, during which the award is given to an African individual or institution that has made significant contributions to a better world and a better African continent.

Atta Barkindo, the executive director of the Kukah Centre, also confirmed the award in a statement made in September.

“We at the Kukah Centre are humbled by this show of appreciation for the contributions of the Founder of our Centre. While we congratulate our Founder, Bishop Kukah, we sincerely thank the initiators of this Award,” the statement reads.

“We promise that this Award will spur us all to work even harder in promoting the ideals that Bishop Kukah represents to make the world a better place through the activities of the Kukah Centre.”

He mentioned that the prize includes a cash reward of €10,000.
