Javier Hernandez, the former Manchester United star, has made a remarkable comeback to his childhood club, Chivas, in the Mexican league.

The club has officially confirmed that Mexico legend Javier Chicharito Hernandez has joined Liga MX side Chivas. Hernandez, who started his career in the Chivas youth system and played for the club from 2006 to 2010, has returned to his beloved club after a gap of 14 years.

The official statement from the Mexican club on signing the veteran forward read, “Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez returns to the team of his love till the end of 2024. We are convinced that his love for the Institution, the experience acquired during his successful career and the leadership that characterizes him will be reflected in this new stage with Chivas.”

The former Mexico international, who is 35 years old, recently completed a three-year period playing for the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Unfortunately, in June 2023, he sustained an ACL injury, which ended his time with the American club prematurely. Since November of last year, Hernandez has been without a team and is currently a free agent.

Chivas, the team he previously played for, did not have a great beginning to the new Liga MX season. They only managed to earn one point from their first two games. Their next match will be against Club Tijuana on Saturday.
