Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman believes that the Super Eagles will enhance their performance as the 2023 Afcon tournament progresses, now that they have reached the quarterfinals.

The Nigerian team, known as the Super Eagles, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Cameroon on Saturday night.

Despite Nigeria facing some challenges and not performing at their best, Lookman is confident that they are just beginning to show their true potential.

Nigeria had to recover from being one goal behind in their first match against Equatorial Guinea and ended up with a draw. They were fortunate to secure a narrow 1-0 win against the hosts, Ivory Coast.

In their last match of the group stage, they again won by a score of 1-0. However, in the knockout stages, they successfully scored two goals without any response from Cameroon.

“We are so happy to qualify for the quarterfinals. The more we play together, the more fluid we become. I’m standing here now, but this award reflects the whole team’s performance,” Lookman was quoted as saying by News Diary Online.

“I love this atmosphere; it’s incredible. Tonight our fans pushed us to the end because this was Cameroon, and when you wear the Super Eagles shirt, some games resonate more than others,” Lookman added.

The Super Eagles will now compete against Angola, who had a comfortable victory over Namibia on Saturday, as they strive to win their first Afcon title since 2013. Nigeria aims to secure their fourth title, which would put them on par with Ghana as the third most successful African nation.
