Gunmen suspected of being bandits burned down the parish house of Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church in Kaduna State‘s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, killing a seminarian in the process.

According to an eyewitness, the bandits entered the Saint Raphael Parish in Fadan Kamantan, Kafanchan Diocese, on Thursday night and set fire to the building and a vehicle parked on the premises.

According to sources, the late seminarian, Stephen Danlami, perished from smoke inhalation while attempting to flee the raging fire, while other priests within the parish home were claimed to have fled.

Shortly after the crime, police in the state announced a manhunt for the perpetrators.

Manir Hassan, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, said the bandits invaded the worship center in droves.

While the perpetrators were unable to enter the main building, he claims they set fire to the residence, as well as a motorcycle and car part on the property.

The deceased perished as a result of smoke inhalation while attempting to flee the burning structure, according to eyewitness testimonies.
