Arteta Blames VAR For Soucek’s Contentious Goal In 2–0 Lost To West Ham

Published:

As West Ham shocked Arsenal at home, Mikel Arteta criticized VAR once more, costing them the opportunity to take back the top spot.

At the 73rd attempt, David Moyes achieved his first away league victory against the traditional “big four” of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

In the first half, Tomas Soucek controversially opened the score; VAR was unable to establish if the ball had crossed the goal line prior to Jarrod Bowen’s cross.

After the break, former Gunner Konstantinos Mavropanos extended the lead to complete the victory.

“If the technology we have now is not good enough to give us that answer (of whether the ball went out), what we have to do is, without that, win the game,” stated Arteta, the manager of Arsenal.

“I have not witnessed it.” They claim it’s not definitive. It’s unfortunate that the technology we have doesn’t make it easy to determine if anything is in or out.

It’s finished. It is no longer there. Right now, there is nothing we can do about it.

Arsenal has only gained four points from their last four league games, despite having 30 shots to West Ham’s 6.

“It was a brilliant defensive job, terrific structure, organization, and discipline,” Moyes remarked on his historic night. They had an excessive amount of balls, yet we performed a fantastic job.

Although Arsenal put us under a lot of strain and performed brilliantly, we must acknowledge that defense plays a major role in sport. We performed a really decent job, but sometimes you don’t want to talk about it too much.

If you recall, Arsenal used to earn a living by doing it here. I think our defense was excellent.

Speaking about the VAR incident with Soucek’s goal, he continued, “I hadn’t even considered it.” I recently heard from the players that they didn’t even consider that there was a problem with the goal for a moment.

The amount of time it took to make a decision suggests that it was close.

Moyes continued, “We are getting ready to talk.” His contract expires at the end of the current campaign. None of us are finishing it too soon, in my opinion. That doesn’t seem like a problem to me.
