The Nigerian Army is set to release more than 200 detainees who have been found to have no connection to the Boko Haram terrorist group.
These detainees were captured by the military as part of efforts to stop terrorism in the northern region, a mission that has been ongoing for over ten years.
The detainees will be transferred to the Borno State Government for assistance in reintegrating them back into society.
The release ceremony will be held at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Tuesday morning.
“Not fewer than 200 cleared Boko Haram suspects that are being cleared of any wrongdoing by security operatives, and they will be hand over to the Borno State Government for rehabilitation and reintegration.
“The handing over ceremony is set to be this morning (Tuesday) at 10: a.m. at Giwa Barracks,” a source said.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, and her counterpart in Information and Internal Security, Prof Tar Umar, will be responsible for receiving the detainees on behalf of the state government, according to the source.
