After passing a medical, Sergio Reguilon will finish a second Premier League loan transfer in a matter of months, according to David Ornstein.
Due to the Spanish left-back’s lackluster performance at Manchester United, the Red Devils exercised their right to terminate his season-long loan from Tottenham by activating the break clause in his contract. The fact that Luke Shaw recovered to full fitness and United decided they no longer needed him further complicated things. Reguilon, however, will reportedly play in the English top division going forward, as he has signed a contract with the Brentford Bees for the duration of the season, according to The Athletic.
Reguilon is anticipated to visit Brentford’s training grounds on Wednesday afternoon in order to finalize the transfer paperwork, which does not include a buyout option. According to the same report, chairman Daniel Levy has approved the terms of the arrangement, meaning Tottenham will keep paying a percentage of his wage.
Reguilon might make an early appearance in the starting lineup given Rico Henry’s knee injury. It is believed that Brentford had gotten in touch with Tottenham back in November and had been eager to get the former Real Madrid left-back on board for some time.
Since the defender was already with United, the deal was intricate, and Brentford was only able to complete the loan transfer during the January transfer window.
In order for Reguilon to play in the Premier League, Brentford will need to register him. Hopefully, they can do so in time for him to be available for selection on January 20 against Nottingham Forest. After that, though, he’ll probably have to go back to the sidelines because the Bees play Spurs, the Spaniard’s parent team, on January 31. It’s possible that a condition will be introduced to prevent him from playing in that match.
