The Zamfara State Transport Agency stopped 50 trucks carrying various grains from being transported to the Niger Republic near the Nigerian border in Gidan Jaja village.
Shehu Sani, a resident of Zurmi town in Zurmi Local Government Area, reported that the trucks were intercepted by the agency.
Sale Shinkafi, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Transport Agency (ZARTO), confirmed the interception and stated that the trucks were prevented from continuing to the Niger Republic.
The agency told the owners to go back to their local areas and sell the goods at fair prices in Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu had instructed state governors to deal with the food crisis and hoarding.
This is part of a larger effort to address problems in the agricultural sector, especially with the removal of fuel subsidies and its impact on transportation costs, as well as security issues for farmers.
There is now more focus on monitoring the transportation of food to prevent smuggling and make sure food is available to the people in Nigeria.
