Fulham’s Brazilian forward Willian has acknowledged that his decision to leave Chelsea for Arsenal almost three years ago was a mistake.
The former Shakta Donetsk winger was dissatisfied to receive a two-year contract after spending seven trophy-filled seasons at Chelsea.
Willian signed for Arsenal on a free transfer when they agreed to hand him his desired three years, which is a year more than what Chelsea offered.
However, Willian did not perform well for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and was forced to return to Brazil to join Corinthians. He later signed with Fulham after spending a brief period with Corinthians.
Willian will play against Arsenal on Sunday at Craven Cottage. He admitted that not everything went his way at Arsenal in a conversation with Sky Sports.
“Yeah, I wish I’d never left. Of course it’s easy now to say something but when you stop to think about all the situations, I say to myself ‘I wish I never left. “But it’s life. I’m happy now at Fulham and I’m enjoying myself there.
“They (Arsenal) are flying now. I think it was in the middle when things were changing a lot. I was excited when I signed with them. I was training hard but it just didn’t work and that’s it.”
