Mikel Arteta has put last season’s collapse behind him as Arsenal continues to chase the Premier League title after a convincing victory over Brighton.
The team’s 3-0 win at the Amex Stadium on Saturday propelled them to the top of the league table.
Goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Leandro Trossard, a former Brighton player, helped Arsenal overtake Liverpool and Manchester City by a single point.
Arteta, the Gunners’ manager, seemed unfazed when asked about their previous season’s struggles, showing a sense of forgetfulness.
When questioned about Arsenal’s performance at this point last year, the 42-year-old responded to reporters from Football London: “I forgot already.”
Arteta added: “I don’t know [if there is a difference in his side’s mentality this season]. I think we’re in a really good moment. We have the squad healthy with a really good energy and a lot of confidence individually and collectively. We have to just keep doing what we’re doing.”
Arsenal are showing more determination in the final stretch of this season compared to last year when they struggled against Manchester City.
However, with seven games left to play, it’s important to remember that last season they had a bigger lead over City at this point and lost it. It’s uncertain if they can keep their composure and secure their first Premier League title since 2004.
If Liverpool beats Manchester United on Sunday, Arsenal could lose their top spot. They have a tough schedule ahead, facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday and then hosting fourth-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League next Sunday.
