Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Canada on a surprise visit Thursday night from the United States to garner support for his country as it confronts the Russian invasion.

As seen on Canadian television, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received Zelensky as he stepped off his plane in Ottawa after flying from Washington for his first visit here since the conflict began in February 2022.

Zelensky met with President Joe Biden and congressional leaders in Washington.

Canada has a sizable Ukrainian community, and Trudeau’s government has committed unwavering and long-term assistance for Ukraine as it fights Russian soldiers.

Zelensky will undertake formal talks with Trudeau and deliver an address to the Canadian parliament on Friday.

He and Trudeau will also visit Toronto to meet with business leaders and members of the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada.
