Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been sworn-in as Nigeria’s new President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to steer the country’s ship for the next four years.
The 71-years-old former Lagos State Governor was sworn in as Nigeria’s President on Monday, May 29, in Eagle Square in Abuja, the country’s capital city.
Tinubu and his deputy, Kashim Shettima, were sworn in by Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, at 10:28 and 10:38 a.m., respectively.
“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria that I will preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So, help me, God,” the new President swore.
Tinubu’s predecessors, notably Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, were present during the inauguration ceremony.
Remi Tinubu, Nana Shettima, and Aisha Buhari, the wives of Tinubu and Shettima, as well as Aisha Buhari, witnessed the oath-taking event.
The new Prime Minister of Gabon, Billy By-Nze, President of the Republic of Cote D’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara; Ghana President, Nana Akufo-Addo; and Rwanda President, Paul Kagame, were among the African leaders who witnessed the historic event at the venue beautifully decorated with the nation’s green-white-green colors.
Dignitaries including as Akinwumi Adesina, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Jim Ovia were also present at the inauguration site.
