President Bola Tinubu signed the 2023 Supplementary Budget of N2.17 trillion at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday in Abuja.
After a third reading, the Senate and House of Representatives enacted the N2.17trn 2023 supplementary appropriation bill on Thursday.
Prior to the bill’s adoption, the Senate accepted the report of the harmonized sittings of both the red and green chambers on the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, as submitted by the Appropriations Committee Chairman, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Ogun West).
The bill received swift passage in both the upper and lower houses, with legislators claiming it was for the benefit of the country.
Tinubu had written to the National Assembly, requesting that the sum of N2,176,791,286,033 be approved as the 2023 supplementary budget to address labor wage changes, security, and other issues.
The President also transmitted the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2024-2026 to both chambers of the National Assembly.
The Senate recently passed N819 billion, including a N500 billion palliative package.
Tinubu had stated that the extra bill was required for additional palliative measures such as pay increases. The President’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the N2.1 trillion supplementary budget for 2023 on Monday.
