President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja for Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to attend the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

The President was seen off by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other aides as he left the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja at 4 p.m.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale stated that the World Leaders’ Summit will be held on December 1 and 2, 2023, with the theme “Unite, Act, and Deliver.”

President Tinubu, according to Ngelale, will present a national statement during the summit outlining Nigeria’s position on numerous topical problems, including renewable energy and climate funding.

Aware of the severe impact of climate change on Nigeria, such as desertification, flooding, erosion, and drought, as well as the associated national security risks, President Tinubu will use the platform to advocate for increased financial and technical support for developing countries, while reminding developed countries of their public pledge to provide $100 billion annually for support to localized initiatives to address climate change-related ch

The President’s address will also emphasize accountability for companies and institutions, highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.

The Nigerian delegation to COP28 is launching a new and deeper bilateral partnership to support the implementation of Nigeria’s energy transition, Article 6 projects, International Transferred Mitigation Results (ITMOs), technology transfer, capacity building and methane mitigation.

In addition to other events hosted by the Nigerian delegation, President Tinubu will actively participate in major side events in Dubai to promote wealth creation and revenue generation in the country.
