Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has declared Manchester City the frontrunners to win the Champions League this season.
Ferdinand thinks that Pep Guardiola‘s team is superior to other teams in the competition.
The ex-England international made these comments on Wednesday night following Manchester City’s advancement to the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
This came after a 3-1 victory over FC Copenhagen in the round of 16 second-leg match at the Etihad Stadium.
Goals from Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez, and Erling Haaland secured the win for the Premier League champions.
“I just don’t see anybody beating them over two legs. Then it depends on who gets in the final,” Ferdinand told TNT Sports post-match.
“Whoever they are playing against in the final needs that stardust from one or two players who can turn a game on its head, then they have an opportunity, a chance.
“But City, I think they are standout favourites. They are a level above.”
Manchester City are the current champions, having defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the final of the previous season.
