The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on Monday, October 23 in the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, seeking to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s election victory.

The Supreme Court will hear Atiku’s plea to introduce new evidence to indicate that President Bola Tinubu submitted a fraudulent certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the same day.

In a hearing notice obtained by Visitodell on Thursday, the Supreme Court set 9 a.m. as the date for Atiku’s and President Tinubu’s lawyers to address its panel of seven Justices on whether it has the authority to grant the motion.

Lawyers from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who are joint respondents in the application, are also scheduled to address the court on the contentious proposal.

They must argue and quote relevant laws to determine whether such a request is permissible under the country’s Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.

The documents sought by Atiku include Tinubu’s academic records, which were sent over to him by Chicago State University on Monday, October 2.

Judge Nancy Maldonado of the District Court of Illinois, Eastern Division, Illinois, United States of America, ordered the release of the 32-page documents to him.
