A bill to modify the Electoral Act has passed second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill, introduced by Honourable Francis Waive, proposes that general elections be held on the same day to save money and time for the country while also preventing the bandwagon effect.

The amendment also intends to make electronic results transmission mandatory and to penalize those who submit frivolous petitions with large penalties in order to minimize the number of cases that wind up in court.

Furthermore, the amendment requires the electoral umpire to conduct a new registration process for eligible voters.
