The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared the start of Ramadan in Nigeria.
This announcement came after the Sultan of Sokoto confirmed the sighting of the moon, marking the beginning of the Ramadan season.
This was disclosed by the Sultane in a post on X, which reads: “The Sultanate has confirmed a single sighting claim, and His Eminence the Sultan will soon make an announcement. Ramadan Mubarak.”
Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the start of the Holy month of Ramadan.
The moon was seen on Sunday evening.
This means that March 10 is the final day of the month of Sha’ban, and Ramadan will begin on Monday, March 11.
Ramadan follows the lunar Islamic calendar, with months lasting either 29 or 30 days, starting and ending based on the sighting of the crescent moon.
