A parliamentary committee has exonerated a South African minister and three other MPs from the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party of wrongdoing.

Following an investigation into charges of large-scale corruption, widely known as “state capture,” under former President Jacob Zuma, Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi and MPs Cedric Frolick, Mosebenzi Zwane, and Winnie Ngwenya were implicated.

Mr. Nxesi was accused of taking money from notable businessman Edwin Sodi. The other three MPs were charged with graft in separate cases.

The Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests of Parliament cleared the four legislators of any misconduct on Tuesday.

In an investigation that lasted from 2018 to 2022, the Zondo commission, named after its chairperson, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, exposed systemic wrongdoing involving state-owned enterprises.

So far, no one has been convicted in a criminal prosecution.

Current President Cyril Ramaphosa stated that the inquiry’s findings would be adopted at the proper time.

Zuma resigned in 2018, a year before the conclusion of his second term, due to corruption charges.
