Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi believes forward Lautaro Martinez should win the Ballon d’Or this year ahead of Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland.
Martinez is one of the nominees for the Ballon d’Or in 2023. However, the 26-year-old is not considered a favorite.
Martinez had a tremendous season for club and country in 2022-2023.
He scored 28 goals and provided 11 assists in 57 appearances for Inter Milan, winning the Coppa Italia and reaching the UEFA Champions League final.
The 2023 Ballon d’Or, on the other hand, appears to be destined to Argentina teammate Messi for a record eighth time.
Inzaghi, on the other hand, believes Martinez’s exploits last season deserve greater praise and that the attacker deserves to be on the podium at the awards event next week.
“(Martinez deserves it) because of the path he has taken and the trophies he has won, he is worthy of the Ballon d’Or,” Inzaghi said (via TNT Sports).
“He has to be there that night. I don’t think he will win, but he has to continue like this.”
