Jose Mourinho is expected to meet with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis this week, indicating a potential return to Serie A.
The Portuguese manager was recently dismissed by AS Roma and is now poised to replace Walter Mazzarri as Napoli’s manager. Mourinho’s departure from Roma came after consecutive losses to rivals Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana quarterfinal and AC Milan in the Serie A.
The Times also suggests that Mourinho is interested in remaining in Italy but desires a team with more resources than Roma.
The reigning champions Napoli have been struggling to maintain their performance since last season, when their manager Luciano Spalletti left the club.
Rudi Garcia, who took over as the new manager, was fired in November. Under Mazzarri, who joined on a short-term contract, the team has only won four out of the eleven games they have played in all competitions.
It is uncertain when Mourinho will officially become the manager of Gli Azzurri. Currently, Napoli is in ninth place in the Serie A table. Their next match will be in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter on Monday.
