The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reopened Apongbon Bridge in the state on Saturday, more than 15 months after a fire broke out at the market in its vicinity.

On March 23, road users and cars in the surrounding region were plunged into chaos when an early morning fire broke out at Apongbon market, demolishing several wooden stores.

Vehicles parked beneath the bridge were also destroyed by the inferno that engulfed a big portion of the bridge.

Following the incident, the Lagos State Government closed the Eko Bridge and announced alternate routes to reroute traffic and ensure driver safety.

Olufemi Daramola, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Lagos State, was also present at the reopening.

Mrs Olukorede Keisha, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, and Lateef Somide, General Manager, Lagos State Public Works Corporation, were also present.
