Two drones were shot down near a military facility in the Moscow area early Wednesday, inflicting no damage or casualties, according to the regional governor.

Local governor Andrei Vorobyov stated on Telegram that the drones were shot down in the Naro-Fominsk district, around 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Moscow.

“Two drones crashed today at 5:30 and 5:50 in the morning on approach to storage units of a military base”

The attack happened as Ukraine launched a counter-offensive to reclaim territory taken by Russian troops.

Drone attacks on Russian territory bordering Ukraine have increased in recent weeks.

Moscow and its surrounds, which are about 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, have been rarely attacked in the past.

Two drones were shot above the Kremlin in early May, and drones attacked Moscow high-rises later that month.
