Real Madrid is willing to sign Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez as they look to add youth to the position.

At the moment, Carlo Ancelotti has the option of Dani Carvajal (age 31) and Lucas Vazquez (age 33), with Nacho Fernandez (age 35) as a backup. Still, this summer’s contracts for the older pair are also expiring.

Discussions on a possible extension with Vazquez are presently on hold, and the outcome may depend on how far they think they can push Juanlu.

More details on Real Madrid’s pursuit of the 20-year-old, who was originally mentioned in relation to the club last week, have emerged.

Since learning about him when he was 12 years old, Los Blancos have been following him for almost ten years, and their reports have always been good.

He can play in centre defence and is a regular with the Spanish youth teams. The plan is to bring Juanlu in this summer so he can compete with and pick up skills from Carvajal.

The cost is the primary obstacle. Juanlu just extended his contract until 2026, and part of that agreement includes a respectable €20 million release clause.

However, Real Madrid wants to sign him for less money. They wish to sign Mbappe on a less expensive contract because their finances are centred on him and Alphonso Davies. Sevilla is unlikely to make a deal as things are because they have little intention of doing so.

Juanlu has made 21 appearances for Sevilla so far this season, logging 1,292 minutes and dishing up three assists.

Since Gonzalo Montiel left for the Premier League, he has started slightly over half of La Liga‘s games and has engaged in minutes-long combat with Jesus Navas.

The youngster has been a rare bright spot for Sevilla this season, adjusting to La Liga game with some degree of success despite not pulling up any trees.
