Power supply has been restored after the national electricity grid collapsed in the early hours of Thursday.
The grid failure resulted in a major loss of supplies to power distributors across the country.
However, hours later, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Electric) said that electricity had been restored from the system.
“Dear Valued Customer,” the company wrote on its X account, “kindly be informed that power supply has been restored from the grid. Thank you for your patience.”
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) previously confirmed the national grid’s failure but claimed that measures are underway to resolve the issue.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby notes that grid restoration nationwide is in progress and has reached advanced stages with power supply now available in the West, North Central, South, ensuring its stability,” the agency’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah said.
While explaining the reason for the collapse, the TCN said it “occurred after a fire incident on Kanji/Jebba 330kV line 2” but added that the matter “is being investigated, with the view to forestalling future occurrence and invariably further strengthening the grid.
“The incident notwithstanding, TCN is determined to continue to do its best to ensure grid stability,” the TCN assured.
