Pope Francis was released from the hospital on Friday, nine days after undergoing surgery to treat an abdominal hernia.
Francis, 86, was wheeled out of Rome’s Gemelli hospital, waving to reporters and well-wishers as he was led to a waiting car.
“The Pope is fine. Sergio Alfieri, the senior surgeon who operated on Francis on June 7, informed reporters outside the hospital after the pontiff had left.
Alfieri stated that the Pope was in good enough health to travel. Francis is planning excursions to Portugal in the beginning of August and Mongolia towards the conclusion of the month.
His appearances have been canceled until June 18.

The pope usually takes the entire month of July off, with only Sunday blessings as his only public appearances, so he will have plenty of time to relax before the August excursions.
