The Nigeria Police Force has stated that officers across the country are “fully prepared” to preserve law and order ahead of the Presidential Election Petition Court’s decision on Wednesday.

The police advised politicians and mischief makers on Tuesday in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, against disinformation and unguided remarks capable of instigating violence.

According to the police, deployment across Nigeria has been boosted in order to maintain law and order.

“The Police wish to reiterate the commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the judgment,” Adejobi said.

“The NPF has diligently emplaced all necessary deployments and security measures during this critical period as officers and men are fully prepared to maintain order and enforce laws while respecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens.”

The police “strongly cautions all individuals, including mischief makers and political gladiators, to be cautious in their actions and statements as the Force will not condone activities capable of inciting violence or causing a descent into anarchy”.

The police advised all individuals, regardless of political affiliation, to embrace peace and remain calm.

Earlier on Monday, the Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Bangari, stated that the Tribunal will issue decisions on the petitions before it contesting President Bola Tinubu’s win as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the February 25, 2023 election.

The court further stated that the hearings will be televised live by interested television stations.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) are all contesting Tinubu’s election.

Atiku, a former Vice President, finished second, while Obi, an ex-governor of Anambra State, finished third. Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), urged politicians and miscreants against spreading falsehoods and making rash statements that could incite violence.

According to the police, deployment across Nigeria has been boosted in order to maintain law and order.
