To prevent a collapse of law and order, security operatives have taken over crucial spots within and around the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja.

This comes as some protesters arrive at the secretariat to express their displeasure with some of the newly nominated members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to Naija News, the new NWC members will be sworn in this afternoon.

Recall that the APC National Working Committee chose six new members on Wednesday. The decision was made in accordance with the APC National Executive Committee’s (NEC) recommendations.

In its most recent meeting, the ruling party’s NEC delegated some of its responsibilities to the NWC, allowing the party’s administrative organ to fill vacant NWC and zonal positions.

The new officials are the Deputy National Chairman, North, Ali Bukar Dalori (Borno State); National Vice Chairman, North West, Garba Datti Muhammad (Kaduna State); National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdul Karim Abubakar Kana (Nasarawa State); National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa (Abia State); National Woman Leader, Mary Alile Idele, PhD (Edo State); and, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko (Kogi State). Also, the North Central Zonal chapter of the party has a new Zonal Organizing Secretary, Ikani Shuaibu Okolo (Kogi State).

However, there is alleged to be a stumbling block in the declaration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s choice, Mary Alile Idele, from Edo State, as National Women Leader (South South Zone), rather than Dr Stella Odey-Ekpo, the candidacy of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu.

Duro Meseko (Kogi State) was also chosen as the new Deputy National Publicity Secretary (North Central Zone) to replace Yakubu Ajaka, who was purportedly suggested by James Faleke over the nominee selected by Governor Bello.

Following the developments, Edu was claimed to have stormed the party secretariat about 6.20 p.m. on Wednesday to demand the withdrawal of her candidate.

Similarly, the presence of Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello in the early hours of Thursday morning added to the anxiety around the secretariat.

Governor Bello, who arrived at the secretariat in the G-Wagon, told reporters that he will not bulge until the “ issue must be sorted out today.”
