The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invaded the residence of Adamu Abdullahi, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Sunday night to execute a search warrant.
The EFCC agents arrived at Adamu’s house on Ali Akilu Crescent, near the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, at 8:00 p.m. and were confronted with resistance from police orderlies connected to the politician.
The EFCC agents allegedly arrived in four trucks.
The police officers stated that no one could enter the residence because it was after 6:00 p.m., which was too late for any search operation. Despite being presented a warrant signed by a judge, the EFCC officers insisted.
There were no casualties reported during the hours-long standoff. People’s Gazette states that police and EFCC spokespeople were unavailable for comment.
The nature of the warrant was not immediately clear, but Mr Adamu had faced corruption charges that may still be under investigation.
“The police officers said no one can enter the house because it was already past 6:00 p.m. and already late for any search operation,” one of the sources said.
He added: “They said they won’t allow anyone inside even if they go back to bring the judge that signed the warrant.”
The clash between the EFCC and Adamu’s police orderlies comes after increased pressure on Adamu to resign as the ruling party’s national chairman. The push was largely motivated by Adamu’s refusal to back President Bola Tinubu during the APC’s presidential primary in June 2022.
There were no reported physical casualties.
