Juventus and France international midfielder Paul Pogba has been subject to a maximum four-year ban by Italian anti-doping prosecutors following his positive testosterone test.

Because Pogba declined to enter into a plea agreement with Italy’s anti-doping agency, the matter will go before the anti-doping court there. Pogba could end his career at the age of thirty if he is banned for four years.

The World Anti-Doping Code stipulates that athletes face four-year bans, but this can be shortened if they can demonstrate that their doping was accidental, if contamination caused the positive test, or if they offer’substantial assistance’ to officials.

After Juventus‘ match in Udinese on August 20, this year, Pogba underwent testing; the results were revealed in September. Despite sitting on Juventus’ bench, the France international did not participate in the Serie A game.

In addition to receiving a positive result from his doping test, the midfield player requested a counter-analysis of the materials.

It turned out that the chemical found in both samples was DHEA, which aids in the body’s production of other hormones like testosterone.

Pogba has not discussed the case in public since then.
