Prof. Pat Utomi, a Labour Party leader, revealed on Friday his struggle with prostate cancer, which he was diagnosed with last year, and stated that this is the reason he appears to have gone quiet.
In a series of tweets, the Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP) presidential candidate for 2011 stated, “Prostate cancer is bringing death and misery to many men.”
He contended that by forewarning patients, the “misery containment” and chances of cure may be considerably improved, analogous to breast cancer preventative efforts among women.
“When a biopsy showed I was positive last year, I began treatment with a cancer Centre with a branch in Ikeja and VI,” Utomi said.
“I sometimes came from election campaigns to the Ikeja Centre near the Airport. The Doctors would try to smuggle me out from the back.”

After the elections, his young nephews and cousins who are doctors in Europe and the United States “joined forces with the Lakeshore people and decided they wanted me in their direct care,” according to the political economist.
“That’s how come it seemed I went quiet cause they controlled my phones to reduce stress,” he added.
Utomi was instrumental in Labour Party candidate Peter Obi‘s 2023 presidential campaign, clearing the door for an unprecedented third force in Nigerian politics.
Despite the fact that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Bola Tinubu was proclaimed the winner of the race by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Atiku Abubakar, are contesting the results in court.
