Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has congratulated Olumide Akpata for winning the Labour Party’s nomination as their candidate for the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Akpata, a former National President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), won the LP governorship primary election on Friday, February 23, with 316 votes, surpassing other candidates.
The announcement of his victory was made by Abia State’s Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, who chaired the election committee.
Otti also praised the LP Governorship Primary Election Committee for organizing a fair and transparent election.
He specifically lauded his Deputy, Ikechuckwu Emetu, for carrying out his duties as the Returning Officer diligently.
The governor, in a statement from his office in Umuahia, expressed happiness that the primary election was conducted peacefully and has been considered fair and credible by most of the candidates who took part. This is a significant improvement compared to reports from other political parties.
He described the entire process as consistent with the values of LP, which include equity, fairness, and justice. The Governor of Abia State also congratulated the other candidates for showing sportsmanship and urged them to support Akpata in the effort to win Edo State for the Labour Party.
Otti encouraged the other candidates who participated in the primary election to unite behind Akpata as LP works towards taking control of the Government House in Benin City.
The Abia governor also praised the leadership of LP at both the state and national levels for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful election process.
