The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has received his certificate of return from the party’s leadership.
Okpebholo emerged as the party’s candidate in the upcoming governorship election after defeating Dennis Idahosa and 10 other aspirants last Thursday.
The presentation of the certificate followed protests and threats of litigation by Idahosa, who alleged that the re-run poll was rigged in favor of the winner by the National Working Committee.
The certificate was presented at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, along with the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, and other NWC members.
After the presentation, Ganduje expressed confidence that the APC would achieve a resounding victory in the September governorship election in the state.
The party chairman also refuted claims that the contest was manipulated to benefit Okpebholo, stating that he has evidence, including records and videos, to support his statement.
He said, “The full cooperation, harmony, and unity of all aspirants and members of our party is all we need now to win Edo in the coming election now that the primary is over.
“The party has a product that is refined, well packaged, and sellable to the electorate in the person of Okpebholo and is therefore ready to win Edo.”
