Former forward for Atletico Madrid, Nikola Kalinic, has signed a contract that will last until the summer for a meagre €1 per week with his boyhood club.
The 35-year-old Croatian appears destined to finish his career with Hajduk Split, having scored 15 goals in 42 outings for his country.
After spending a year at Hadjuk, where he scored four goals in twenty games, Kalinic had been out of the game for the previous six months. In the winter transfer window, Kalinic was more than eager to return, since Hajduk was looking for a striker.
The contract, according to Diario AS, will only pay €1 a week. His representative called the agreement “the easiest deal I’ve ever negotiated.” It’s not entirely obvious how it complies with Croatia’s minimum wage regulations, which set a monthly salary of €840.
In 2018, he was sold for €14.5 million to go from Milan to Atletico Madrid, but his time in Spain was not the best. He made twenty-four appearances during his one season with the Metropolitano, scoring four goals and providing an assist.
Kalinic was immediately loaned out to Roma the next summer, and in 2020, he signed a €1.8 million contract to permanently depart Atletico for Hellas Verona.
