A tragic incident has occurred as Fola Francis, a well-known Nigerian transgender model, has passed away.

The fashion designer and advocate for the LGBT community reportedly drowned on December 20, 2023, at IIashe Beach in Lagos. Vincent Desmond, a freelance journalist, conveyed the news of her demise in a statement on Friday.

In his statement, Desmond expressed the profound impact Fola Francis had as a beacon of hope and light for many people. He shared the deep sorrow felt by friends and family over her passing and mentioned that details about a memorial would be discussed at a later date. Desmond also requested privacy for the grieving friends and family during this challenging time.

Fola Francis had made history as the first Nigerian transgender individual to grace the runway at the Lagos Fashion Week for Cute-Saint and Fruché.
