Free Nnamdi Kanu As Payback For Awolowo’s Release: IPOB Lawyer

Published:

President Bola Tinubu has received a request to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a form of reciprocation.

Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s Special Counsel, suggests that Tinubu should release Kanu in return for Odumegu Ojukwu’s release of Obafemi Awolowo in the 1960s.

Awolowo had been convicted of treason and was serving time in Calabar prison.

However, on August 3rd, 1966, the late Biafra warrior was freed from prison.

Ejimakor posted on X: “When Awolowo was convicted of treason in 1965, Okpara ensured that he was imprisoned in the East to protect him from his enemies in the West & North.

“Once Ojukwu came to power, he promptly released Awolowo to please the Yorubas. It’s pay-back time. @officialABAT should #FreeMNK.”

The constitutional lawyer further stated that if Kanu is released, the Army’s over-deployment in the Southeast will be unnecessary.

“The rising over-deployment of the Army in the Southeast, in contrast with the greater insecurity in the North, underscores the high-handedness with which Nigeria treats Ndigbo.

“Buhari took it to a new high, and Tinubu appears to have sustained it. It won’t be necessary if you #FreeMNK,” he added.
